We have a barren space above our stovetop fireplace, right on the bricks that absolutely needed a mantle, and this faux stone mantle is perfect. It feel weighty and able to handle plenty of stockings. It is not quite as wide as the chimney, but it doesn't matter, because it looks great. Definitely have some help when installing and measure twice, drill once, but with some care, you will also enjoy the element of realism this faux stone brings.
